ÉCLOS

My octagonal blush compact — designed in 2023 and available in the Middle East and Turkey — re-engineered in 2026 as a refillable: pans on magnets, a three-knuckle hinge and a lid stop found by sweeping the hinge.

What it is
A 55 mm octagonal duo-blush compact, 11.7 mm closed, with an Art Deco lid and embossed flowers.
Who it is for
People who want to keep and refill a compact rather than replace the complete pack.
The problem
The original file was a surface model: the lid sank into the base, the powder was a solid block, the mirror a 0.06 mm sheet — and nothing could be refilled.
What is different
Two tinplate refill pans on Ø8 mm magnets, a three-knuckle stainless hinge and a lid stop found by sweeping the hinge: 108.5°.

02 — The design challenge

From a surface model to a refillable compact.

The 2023 compact is available in the Middle East and Turkey; its design file, though, was a surface model — the lid sank into the base, the click tab overlapped the base and the powder ran to the floor. The 2026 version keeps the Art Deco lid, the embossed flowers and the engraved name, and adds refill pans on magnets, a hinge pin, a glass mirror and a magnet closure.

The decisions that shaped it.

Decision 01

Refill pans on magnets

Two 0.30 mm tinplate godets sit on Ø8 × 1 magnets, so a pan lifts out and a refill drops in.

Refill: a pan lifts off its magnet

Decision 02

A hinge stop that is measured

A stainless Ø0.8 mm pin runs through three knuckles. Sweeping the lid in 0.5° steps found no interference at 108.0° and first interference at 108.5°, so the stop is measured on the model to within half a degree, not guessed.

Decision 03

Closed by magnets, mirrored in glass

A Ø3 × 1.5 magnet pair holds the lid across a 1.59 mm air gap; a bonded Ø40.4 glass mirror replaces the 0.06 mm sheet.

CAD-developed architecture: every part is a closed solid, so walls, mirror clearance and the refill lift can be measured on the model; forces and tooling are not.

Engineering notes the longer story

The ÉCLOS duo blush compact was an octagon with a filigree lid. As modelled, the lid sank into the base, the powder was one solid block to the floor, the mirror was a 0.06 mm sheet and the click tab overlapped the base.

Re-engineered at 55.0 mm across the flats, it now has two tinplate refill pans on magnets, a stainless pin through three knuckles, a bonded Ø40.4 glass mirror and a magnet closure. The lid's stop was found by sweeping the hinge in 0.5° steps: no contact at 108.0°, first contact at 108.5°.
