Decision 01
The cartridge never rotates
Rotation at the interface would wipe the seal, so the design avoids it: the user turns the bottom cap, and a three-ramp cam turns that into purely axial travel.
DesignedPackaging · Fragrance cartridge platform
A permanent smoked-glass atomizer that takes sealed replacement cartridges through a keyed dock designed so the cartridge never rotates.

Each repeat purchase of a fine fragrance ships the glass, pump, cap and collar again. RF03-U1 splits the object in two. A permanent atomizer keeps the spray engine, the manifold, a short probe and the bottom mechanism. A sealed cartridge carries the reservoir, the valve, the fitment and the full-length dip tube. Only the docking geometry between them would be standardised.
Self-initiated: no client, no academic host, no employer. No fragrance house is a collaborator, supplier or endorser.
Decision 01
Rotation at the interface would wipe the seal, so the design avoids it: the user turns the bottom cap, and a three-ramp cam turns that into purely axial travel.
DesignedDecision 02
Designed so the outer seal engages before the valve opens. On the way out the order reverses: the valve closes before the seal lets go.

Reservoir, valve, fitment and the full-length dip tube leave with the cartridge; the atomizer keeps only the spray engine, the manifold and a short probe.
DesignedDecision 04
Designed so the carrier loads the cartridge’s rigid base foot; the glass is never a bearing or a cam reaction member.
DesignedDecision 05
Standardise the fitment, valve, probe axis and key; leave scent, graphics and authentication to each house. Cross-brand adoption is a hypothesis, not a claim.
Specified intent · hypothesisEach for a mechanical or material reason, not a stylistic one: a paper pouch with a piercing straw (a sharp probe cannot reseal); a screw-in rotating cartridge (rotation reaches the seal); a long reusable dip tube (the largest wet path stays in service); an aluminium probe chosen for looks (appearance cannot select a formula-contact material).
Architecture and starting targets, documented as a validation programme. Nothing is validated: travel, torque and the valve stroke are outputs of a test rig that is specified, not built.

Before any filled test: the reference formula supplied for compatibility testing listed CAS 623-19-8 as its solvent, but that number is furfuryl propionate, not the intended IPM or DPG. Rather than guess, every raw material must be confirmed by the formula supplier; formula-filled testing is on hold until then, and none has run.
As designed, the cap turns 60° and the cartridge rises 4 mm without rotating; the seal engages before the valve opens, and on the way out the valve closes before the seal releases. These are the designed sequence and starting targets, not measured behaviour.
Nothing here is validated: only a 3D-printed form model exists, for form and handling. The test rig that would measure travel, torque and the valve stroke is specified, not built.
CMF chosen by the designer; colours sampled from the concept renders — a material direction, not a finish specification.
